The balance between bouquet and unique taste comes from blending rums of different ages (6-23 years). Older and younger rums are blended after aging in casks previously aged in robust American whiskey, sherry or Pedro Ximenez wines. The creation of Zacapa rum begins with the use of pure sugar from sugar cane, which is obtained during the first pressing of sugar cane, unlike most rums, which are made with molasses.
There is no better place to grow sugar cane than Southern Guatemala, thanks to the rich mineral soil and numerous rivers in the area. The difference in raw materials is already noticeable in the primary aromas and tastes of Zacapa rum.
Ron Zacapa Cenetnario won first place in the premium rum competition four years in a row (1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001) at the International Rum Festival. It is the first rum to be included in the eternal hall of fame at the International Rum Festival.
